The fourth “School of TEART” is focused on the director’s personality. Alexander Marchenko, project monitor, will suggest to study responsibility, the area of professional attention and social position of the director. Screening of the play Duplet and a meeting with the director, the director’s laboratory of Denis Maillefer and a discussion with Dmitry Bogoslavsky, Igor Kazakov and Alexander Yanushkevich will be a part of the School. A series of educational events starts on September 25.
The discussion “Equation of Equalization” will be held on September 25. At the end of last season, Dmitry Bogoslavsky, Igor Kazakov, and Alexander Yanushkevich left the repertory theatres. Each of these directors is a recognized professional who has largely formed the image of the modern Belarusian theatre in Belarus and abroad. What is the background and motives of these actions? What do they have in common and how are they unique? “School of TEART” invites to talk about director’s personality in modern theatrical process. The play Duplet dedicated to the memory of Vaclav Havel, Czech writer and playwright, will be staged On October 5. Havel’s life and work are a model for the nations who are fighting for freedom, independence and democracy. The idea of the production is expressed in Vaclav Havel’s words: “freedom is a value that is obtained at the cost of sacrifice”. The Georgians sacrificed a lot on a thorny path for independence. Individuals who have no doubt in achieving this goal will always be an example to others. Konstantin Abashidze’s Duplet will be staged at The Republican Theatre of Belarusian Drama.
The meet-the-artist event “Director’s choice” with Konstantine Abashidze, director and theater expert, will take place within the “School of TEART” on October 6. The artistic director of the Kutaisi Lado Meskhishvili Professional State Drama Theatre will talk about the choice of a play or a theme for the production and the director’s role in understanding reality. The director’s laboratory, one of the key events of the educational platform, will be held from October 2 to 8. During six days participants will work on a sketch based on the play Richard III by William Shakespeare and the results will be demonstrated. Denis Maillefer is a Swiss director, drama teacher, co-director of the La Comedie de Genève Theatre (Geneva, Switzerland). Among his productions there are Berenice by Jean Racin, The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov, La supplication based on the book Chernobyl Prayer by Svetlana Alexievich. Applications will be accepted until September 3.
