The autumn series of the Theatre HD project screenings will start with the legendary production of Akram Khan’s Giselle. The ballet, which Russian critics called ‘the best performance of 2019’, will be shown on September 1 at the Centralny cinema and on September 11 at the Falcon Club Boutique Cinema.
The tragic story of a naive girl whose heart and mind could not stand the betrayal of her lover, once became the basis for the main World heritage romantic ballet, but continues to excite the minds and imagination of choreographers today.
Bright, brutal, aggressive and, at the same time, soft, exotic and hypnotizing -hardly any other version of Giselle is worthy of these words more than the production of Akram Khan. Incredible in the intensity of emotions a completely new genre of performance will strike a chord with either ballet fans or newcomers.
Akram Khan is one of the most celebrated and respected choreographers in Europe, winner of the Laurence Olivier award for outstanding services to ballet. In 2005 he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). Akram Khan worked with an actress Juliette Binoche, ballet dancer Sylvie Guillem, and composers Steve Reich and Ben Frost. One of the choreographer’s widely recognized achievements is the production of an episode of the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Summer Olympics.
Akram Khan presents a completely different Giselle: not only he chooses other librettos and music by Adolphe Adam.
