In December, TheatreHD screenings will be held in order to brighten up the winter and stay up to date with what is happening in the theatre world. The whole month on the screens of cinemas in Minsk will be absolute hits of this year (in case you have not yet seen “Fleabag” with Phoebe Waller-Bridge or Tom Hiddleston in “Coriolanus”), as well as a fresh play “Uncle Vanya” by Ian Rickson, filmed immediately after recession of the first wave of coronavirus. For those who are not accustomed to deny themselves a dose of aesthetic pleasure – the grandiose film-exhibition “Raphael’s Riddle”. You can even see the opera “Troubadour” with Dmitry Hvorostovsky and Anna Netrebko on the movie screen.

The legendary duet of Dmitry Hvorostovsky and Anna Netrebko in the opera by Giuseppe Verdi can be seen on December 5 at the cinema “Tsentralny”. The Troubadour is both an example of melodrama and a daring experiment in the destruction of musical and theatrical forms. Love, politics and family secrets intertwine in the plot, and energy fills the score of the opera, whose melodies are captivating and remain in the memory for a long time. On the same day, at the VOKA CINEMA by Silver Screen – a novelty of the British theatre based on Chekhov’s play, which should not be missed. “Uncle Vanya” is an encyclopedia of not a village, but a universal human life.

On December 6, the Falcon Club Boutique Cinema will present a London production dedicated to the rise and fall of the financial giant Lehman Brothers. The Lehman Brothers Trilogy is a saga covering almost the entire American history of the last two centuries. Sam Mendes invited only three actors to play different generations of the family of moneymakers: Simon Russell Beale, Adam Godley and Ben Miles. “No Man’s Land” is a comic masterpiece by Harold Pinter. The plot focuses on two aging writers, Hirst and Spooner, who meet in a pub in Hampstead for a drink. The higher the pile of empty bottles grows, the more incredible the stories of the writers become. The performance won the Evening Standard Award and Ian McKellen received the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor. Audience Bonus: After the show, an exclusive interview with actors and director Sean Mathias will be shown. Doctor Faust is the first production by Christopher Marlowe at the modern London Globe Theatre. Director Matthew Dunster turned the scene into a battlefield between Lucifer and the angels for the soul of one man. You definitely saw the performer of the role of Mephistopheles, Arthur Darville, on the BBC television series “Doctor Who”. The play about a mysterious doctor who sold his soul to the devil can be seen on December 9 and 13 at the Falcon Club Cinema Boutique.

December 9 and 12 – “The King of Lear” and the farewell Shakespearean appearance of the brilliant British actor Ian McKellen in VOKA CINEMA by Silver Screen. The role of a governor distraught with deceitful ideals is the most desired role for any actor. Ian McKellen met all expectations in this role.

A grandiose exhibition of Raphael’s works dedicated to the 500th anniversary of his death awaits you in a new documentary. The creators of “The Riddle of Raphael” got exclusive access to the Roman exhibition of the artist’s works and conveyed in detail the influence that the ancient city had on him. Look at the mesmerizing paintings on December 13 at Tsentralny, December 16 and 20 at Falcon Club Boutique Cinema, and at VOKA CINEMA by Silver Screen on December 19.

December 15 at the cinema “Tsentralny” – the heroic comedy “Cyrano de Bergerac” with the brilliant James McAvoy in the title role. Thanks to Martin Crimp and Jamie Lloyd, the story of the ugly poet-knight is transported to our time. And this means – no fake noses, raincoats and swords. After all, de Bergerac’s main weapon at all times was a sharp mind and a ruthlessly accurate word. And, of course, a romantic big heart.

A Shakespearean tragedy “Coriolanus” will be shown on December 19 at the cinema “Tsentralny”. A small stage of the Donmar Theatre, a few chairs, graffiti on the walls and brutal costumes, equally referring to both Roman history and modernity. In this sparse setting, nothing prevents the ensemble from sparkling, in the center of which is Tom Hiddleston.

On December 22 at the  cinema “Tsentralny” and on December 26 at VOKA CINEMA by Silver Screen, the most self-contradictory and unpredictable director of Russia Lev Dodin turns himself to an absolute classic. The performance “Hamlet” with Danila Kozlovsky is a completely new version of the classic play. The performance, laureate of the Golden Mask Prize for Best Actor, reveals Hamlet as a character hungry for power no less than all the other antagonists of this tragedy.

Julie Taymor’s “The Magic Flute” has enchanted opera lovers all over the world with magnificent puppets and exquisite humor. The opera literally recreates the circumstances indicated in the libretto by Emmanuel Schikaneder: Tamino is really a Japanese prince here, and the action itself is presented as a kaleidoscope of magical figures and bewitching acrobatics of paintings. The opera will be shown at Falcon Club Boutique Cinema on December 23 and 27.

Every year on Christmas and New Year’s eve we remember “The Nutcracker”. Plunge yourself in this ballet on December 30 at Falcon Club Cinema Boutique and VOKA CINEMA by Silver Screen. The performance will also be shown in Grodno on December 23 at the Krasnaya Zvezda cinema.

On December 29, in the cinema “Tsentralny” – a solo performance “Fleabag”, an unambiguous hit. The production resembles a stand-up show: it has no scenery, only a chair, lights and Phoebe Waller-Bridge face-to-face with the audience. Everything else will complement your imagination thanks to her mesmerizing skill, which will make you die of laughter, then freeze in tense and sympathetic silence.
