Nicola and Sarah have been married for a long time and are still in love with each other. They have a six-year-old daughter and a quiet life, but the birth of their second child turns everything upside down. Will the couple cope with all difficulties? The Premio Starlight film at the Venice Film Festival 2020 in the Best Film category will be released from July 15 at the Falcon Club Cinema Boutique.
For the average Italian family, having a second child is fraught with unpredictable challenges. Old grievances appear on the surface, and even the slightest disagreement becomes a reason for a quarrel. You can’t wait for help from old friends, as well as from the older generation, and in general, everything indicates that it is more difficult to have a child when you are in your twenties. A nanny is who will be the real salvation for a desperate couple, but finding the right person without a dubious past turns out to be an almost overwhelming task.
The idea for the film was born out of the monologue “I figli ti invecchiano” (Children make you old), which the iconic Italian screenwriter Mattia Torre wrote for TV. This monologue caused a violent reaction on social networks – in Italy it was discussed by everyone. The script for the film “Figli” was the last work of Torre, who died a year before the release of the picture.
The roles of distraught parents are played by the public’s favorites, Italian film superstars Paola Cortellesi and Valerio Mastandrea. The film was awarded one of the two most significant Italian film awards “Silver Ribbon”, where it won the prize as the best comedy of the year. In 2020, the film won the Premio Starlight award of the Venice Film Festival in the Best Film category.
