In honor of the 65th anniversary of the Danish genius, the Pioner cinema will host special screenings of the films “Europe” and “Breaking the Waves”. The film expert Igor Sukmanov will present the films and also discuss them with the audience after each screening.

As part of the screenings with an expert, two iconic films by Lars von Trier will be presented, these films brought him the Palme d’Or and nominations for an Oscar and a Golden Globe. Watch the aesthetic film Europe about life in post-war Germany on April 29 at 20:00 at the Pioner cinema. A striking black-and-white film interspersed with color shots will remind you of the aesthetics of Franz Kafka’s works, while the splendor of Richard Wagner’s operas, which strive to embrace all forms of art, give the picture an ominous and hypnotic film-noir atmosphere. In Cannes, this work by Trier was noted for its technical novelty and artistic quality.

On April 30 – the director’s birthday – Minsk spectators will have the opportunity to watch Breaking the Waves. This is Trier’s most sensational and ambitious film, combining two pivotal themes in world art – Sex and Faith. “Breaking the Waves” opens von Trier’s famous trilogy about Heart of Gold, about the absolute of kindness and sacrifice, starring the fantastic Emily Watson. This is one of the most emotional and vivid works of Lars von Trier, who has established himself as a magician, manipulator, dogmatist and subtle connoisseur of the human soul.

Both films will also be screened in other cinemas. The film “Europe” can be seen at VOKA CINEMA by Silver Screen until April 28, and at the Falcon Club Cinema Boutique – until May 5. The film “Breaking the Waves” will be released from May 6 to 12 at VOKA CINEMA by Silver Screen, and May 6 to 19 at Falcon Club Cinema Boutique.

All films are shown in their original language with Russian subtitles.

The film distribution is organized by Visual and Performing Arts Centre “ART Corporation”.
