The most personal film of the Italian classic Federico Fellini – “8½” – will be shown from 12 to 20 November at the cinema “Raketa”. The role of Fellini’s alter ego is embodied by Marcello Mastroianni, the favorite of Michelangelo Antonioni, Vittorio De Sica, Luchino Visconti and other Italian filmmakers. The film will be shown in Italian with Russian subtitles.

Fellini’s exceptional talent continues to inspire filmmakers around the world: the director proved himself to be an experimenter and an extremely delicate researcher of human passions. At the same time, Fellini constantly brought something new to his aesthetics, and made the Italian cinema of the twentieth century recognized as a European cultural phenomenon.

The protagonist of the film is Guido Anselmi, a renowned Italian filmmaker who is struggling to start shooting a new sci-fi film. The producers are impatient, millions have been spent on the scenery, the famous actors have been invited – but Guido has a creative and personal crisis. He is disappointed in work, life and love, he is suffering from melancholy, anxiety, doubts about his abilities. He can’t find the idea for his future film and he constantly returns to the events of his past in search for inspiration and fantasizes about the present.

“8½” together with Fellini’s previous film “La Dolce Vita” form a kind of duology about the impossibility of a creative act among strangers. The director engaged some of the greatest Italian talents of the time. The main role, as in “La Dolce Vita”, was played by Marcello Mastroianni, winner of numerous European and world film awards. The film also stars Anouk Aimée, Claudia Cardinale, Sandra Milo and the Italian horror queen Barbara Steele.

Cinematographer Gianni Di Venanzo worked with the main Italian directors of the time. The music was written by Nino Rota – his compositions for the films of Fellini, Visconti and two parts of Coppola’s “The Godfather” became no less legendary than the films themselves. “8½” is included in the lists of the best films of all time, is the owner of two “Oscars” and the main prize of the Moscow International Film Festival.

The film distribution in Minsk is arranged by Visual and Performing Arts Centre “ART Corporation”.
