New project “Weekends with Fellini / Sorrentino” will start in May: every Friday and Saturday on the screen of the cinema “Pioneer” the films of two legendary Italian directors will be presented. From 14 to 29 May “Weekends with Fellini / Sorrentino” will immerse you in the aesthetics of Italian life, acquaint viewers with different eras, classic and modern masterpieces. At all screenings of the project, film expert Igor Sukmanov will present the films and also discuss them with the audience after screening.
The names Fellini and Sorrentino embody different eras, formulas of audience adoration and the facets of the outrageous. But despite these formal differences, the latin culture is running through the veins of these Italian filmmakers. “They worship a vigorous, overpowering Great Beauty. They indulge in common fears – they describe the state of creative crisis, the impotence of the flesh, the bitterness of oblivion. They tirelessly glorify in the films “La Dolce Vita” of modern Roman patricians, round-the-clock party-goers, hipsters and paparazzi, charlatans and saints, stars of politics and cinema. They are ironic, they enjoy and admire this Roman pandemonium, the greatness of life and poverty of spirit. Their frescoes are full of vanity and the breath of eternity”, – says film expert Igor Sukmanov. The Weekends program brings together their films so that two indomitable streams of author’s fantasies come together and embrace each other, demonstrating the kinship of souls and the uniqueness of talents.
On the first weekend (May 14-15), you can watch the great drama of the twentieth century – “La Dolce Vita“ with Marcello Mastroianni in the title role, followed by a film rethinking this iconic movie “The Great Beauty” by Paolo Sorrentino. May 21 and 22 – Palme d’Or nominee starring Harvey Keitel and Michael Caine “Youth” and Fellini’s fantasy comedy “Juliet of the Spirits“. On the last weekend, May 28 and 29, the viewers can see one of Sorrentino’s early works, the mysterious and unconventional film about the “ghosts” of the mafia “The Consequences of Love” and “Loro” – the story of politician Silvio Berlusconi, in which the director again turns to the phenomenon of Italian political culture.
“Weekends with Fellini / Sorrentino” is organized by Visual and Performing Arts Centre “ART Corporation”. This project is carried out with the support of the Italian Embassy in Minsk. Films will be shown in their original language with Russian subtitles.
