We recommend starting this spring with the premiere at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The performance RSC: Timon of Athens – one of Shakespeare’s most rarely performed works – will be shown on March 3 at the Centralny cinema. The Shakespearean hero Timon is played by actress Kathryn Hunter. With the help of incredible plasticity of the body and an unusual voice, she shows us an embittered misanthrope who has lost power and money and experienced a tremendous betrayal. The screening will be repeated on March 6 at VOKA CINEMA by Silver Screen.

On March 4 on the screen of the Falcon Club Cinema Boutique you can watch the film Salvador Dali: In Search of Immortality about the greatest surrealist. This is a journey into the life of the master, a study of his art and understanding of the love story between the artist and his muse Gala. It begins in 1929, when Salvador Dali joins the surrealist movement, and ends with his death in 1989.

On March 4, the screening of One Man, Two Guvnors will take place at the Mir cinema in Vitebsk. Director Nicholas Hytner transfers the action of the classic 18th-century comedy by Carlo Goldoni to resort Britain in 1963: instead of romantic Venetian nobles, there are provincial gangsters on the stage, who separately employ a simple British guy played by incredibly funny James Corden.

The “Exhibition on Screen” project will continue in the Centralny cinema: on March 8 there will be shown a film exhibition I, Claude Monet. The film’s director Phil Grabsky creates a new portrait of the artist, who not only laid the foundation for impressionism, but also became one of the most influential painters of the 19th and 20th centuries.

On March 11, the Falcon Club Cinema Boutique invites you to see an incredibly funny comedy of situations Comédie-Française: A Flea in Her EarRaymonde Chandebise suspects her husband is being unfaithful. She sets a trap for him by inviting him anonymously to a rendezvous at the Minet-Galant hotel, but the situation runs out of control. The simple story of one misunderstanding turns into a gigantic farce full of illusions, confusion and sincere feelings.

The exciting story by Richard Wagner will be presented to the audience of the Centralny cinema in a live broadcast from The Metropolitan Opera. On March 14, there will be shown The Flying Dutchman. In 1839, Wagner and his wife secretly fled Riga, escaping the persecution of creditors by sea. On the way, the ship repeatedly found itself close to death, storms threw it off course and at some point brought it to the coast of Scandinavia. The sight of rocky shores, the roar of the waves and the superstition of the sailors revived in the memory of the composer a legend from Heine he had once read, which formed the basis of a new romantic opera.

A well-known to Minsk audience avant-garde and “cinema/theatre” lover, director Ivo van Hove reconceived one of cinema masterpieces and directed the drama All About Eve. The story of the aging Broadway diva Margo Channing (Gillian Anderson), who faces with daring energy, cunningness and ambitions of her fanatical admirer, young actress Eva Harrington, will be shown on March 15. Within the framework of the Theater Club at VOKA CINEMA by Silver Screen, theatre and film critics will discuss the play with the audience. The second screening will be held on March 29 and without discussion.

Harry Essendyne is afraid of old age, loneliness, and get stuck in his love polygons. All these difficult relationships, scandals, clashes and tantrums take place in the bohemian art-deco interiors of the 1930s and (unexpectedly) to the music of The Doors and The Shirelles, which adds even more charm to this surprisingly gentle and witty spectacle. You can watch the top-billed performance of winter – Real Comedy – on March 11 in VOKA CINEMA by Silver Screen and on March 17 in Centralny cinema.

Plunge into the atmosphere of American streets of the 1930s on March 18 at the Falcon Club Cinema Boutique. The musical 42nd Street staged by Mark Bramble will tell the story of aspiring singer Peggy Sawyer, who has a unique chance to show her talent in a Broadway show. “The main musical about show business,” the Daily Telegraph notes. That same evening, Grodno residents can see the most impressive opera of our time – Akhnaten from The Metropolitan Opera on the screen of the Krasnaya Zvezda cinema. It is a unique opportunity to travel to the world of legendary rulers, their children and mysterious priests, without leaving present-day Belarus.

On March 22, the Centralny cinema is waiting for you at the screening of the film exhibition Lucien Freud: A Self Portrait. Almost 70 years of the artist’s life, from the earliest, pre-war self-portrait of 1939 to the last, written in 2003, show the development of his art and the study of his own soul and the aging process.

This month is lucky for all the fans of James McAvoy’s acting: on March 24 at the Centralny cinema and VOKA CINEMA by Silver Screen you can see the premiere of Cyrano de Bergerac. Director Jamie Lloyd, along with playwright Martin Crimp, modernized the famous play: no more fake noses, cloaks and swords. The wit of the protagonist, the wordplay, romanticism and fearlessness remained unchanged. Heroic comedy is played out on stage almost bare of scenery – Lloyd urges you to focus on the text; and the text here is so important that even sword fights turn into real rap battles, accentuated by ordinary concert microphones placed at the front of the stage.

Among the many interpretations of the image of King Lear, the work of British director Nancy Meckler Globe: King Lear stands out specifically. From the distant XI century, the monarch is transported to a modern lower social strata, where he is forced to experience spiritual and human poverty. You can appreciate the modern adaptation of the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on March 25 at the Falcon Club Cinema Boutique.

The March will end with a romantic story embodied in the most graceful form of art. The ballet of the Russian Bolshoi Theater Romeo And Juliet will be shown on March 29 on the screen of the Centralny cinema. The world premiere of Alexei Ratmansky’s ballet took place in Toronto in 2011 and was highly praised by critics and spectators who noted the expressiveness, musicality, dramatic character of the play and the emotional depth intrinsic to Ratmansky’s performances. “Perhaps the story has become less sentimental, but has found a fresh, living breath; this story has a soul,” the Canadian press wrote about the performance.
