Silver Screen Theatre club continues to expand. On January 26, the club will show the oldest French theatre La Comédie-Française – Electra/Orestes. The production, which is called even more exciting than Game of Thrones, will be presented by Angelika Krashevskaya and Didier Caness, Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Belarus. The production will be screened at 6 p.m. at VOKA CINEMA by Silver Screen.
In Electra/Orestes Ivo van Hove combines two Euripides plays that tell the story of Electra and Orestes, or how a separated brother and a sister meet and unite in the revenge. Known for his ability to “unfold” texts on stage, the Belgian Director created on the stage of the famous Comédie-Française a terrifying and relevant image of unjustifiable evil and revenge.
This new production recount an entire episode in the history of the House of Atreus, the last in a long cycle of murder and revenge. Electra and Orestes’ father Agamemnon was murdered by his wife and lover on his return from the Trojan War. Aegisthus now reigns in Argos, the young Orestes has been sent into exile, and Electra was married off to a poor peasant.
Belgian Director Ivo van Hove won two Obie Awards for Best Production of an off-Broadway production in New York, won a Best Director Laurence Olivier Award and Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play. The Director has always been drawn to staging films for the theatre, choosing each time the legendary tapes of great directors. His production All About Eve with Gillian Anderson was screened within TheatreHD project in Minsk.
Widely acclaimed for his formidable talent and his ability to dramatize texts, the director of Toneelgroep Amsterdam constantly redefines his aesthetics and his relationship with the actors. Even though Van Hove denounces the concept of the ‘method,’ he revisits the ancient drama, paying tribute to its social dimension and illuminating the myth with a very clear sense of its relevance to our times.
The permanent moderator of the project Angelika Krashevskaya, director of the center for visual and performing arts ART Corporation and the International Theatre Forum TEART.
